20.01.2023: Kultur*Europa*Journal mit Celia Stroom
Celia Stroom is a stage director of performances, a choreographer, a vocalist, a visual artist. She has been working the last 20 years in the fields of opera, dance and museums. She is now the art director of the biennale for women artists The Enclosed garden. In the framework of this project, she is developing since the first edition ( 2019, Georgia, Tbilisi) what she calls "the expology of the intimate". She basically designs the exhibition as a stage shared by the artists and the audience, to get people closer, to open a dialogue that usually never happens in the framework of exhibitions.
She is currently preparing the 4th edition of the festival in Kirghizistan together with the director of the Museum of Feminist Arts of Bischkek Altyn Kapalova.
She dedicated these 2 months of Styria-Artist-in-Residence-Scholarship (St.A.i.R.) in Graz as a precious break to reflect on these 4 years of collaboration with women artists in Georgia, India, Thailand, Uzbekistan. She will present a first sketch of the show, set up as a surreal and poetical installation built on real stories, memories, archives (field recordings, photos, videos). Her intention is to underline the slight border that divides (or unites) apparent opposite concepts such as « beauty » and «ugliness » / « foreign » and « familiar » / "strange" and "ordinary".
